Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera

Price $ 549.99 +

I really like the sports feature of this digital camera. It’s amazing how Rebel XS can capture every jump & dance move. The fact that it is very lightweight to carry around, may just be a good reason why you would want to purchase this camera.

One drawback was the lack of IR receiver for wireless remote shutter control, which is found on the next higher model.

If you don't need the video function, this camera is great for taking pictures. All the features were almost identical to Canon Rebel, so the learning curve is easy if you have owned one.

For its price, this digital camera will give you awesome pictures with the right lenses.

  • To check how to use EOS Rebel XS, download a copy of Canon EOS Rebel XS User Manual here. This user manual is from Canon USA support group and you must have Adobe Reader to read the full text.

Key Features of Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera

Canon’s CMOS sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range, and offers the most pixels in its class. It offers many of the same new technologies first seen in Canon’s professional EOS-1D Mark III to maximize each pixel's light gathering efficiency.

EOS Rebel XS’s Auto Lighting Optimizer is yet another image-quality tool that comes to the rescue in tricky lighting conditions.

This digital camera features a high-speed, wide area 7-point AF system. It can focus using One-Shot AF mode, AI Focus AF, AI Servo AF and Manual.

EOS Rebel XS operates with such effortless speed that operation is nothing short of intuitive.

The EOS Rebel XS has a bright 2.5-inch TFT LCD monitor with 230,000 pixels and a viewing angle of 170ยบ. It’s perfect for Live View composition or viewing camera settings like AF, ISO, Metering, AF Point selection and flash options.

Photographers who must change lenses in dusty environments will find the advanced Canon EOS Integrated Cleaning System a tremendous time saver. Dust that settles on the sensor surface is removed using ultrasonic vibration.

Measuring 4.96" x 3.8" x 2.4" and weighing in at under 16 oz., this digital camera is indeed the smallest digital Rebel ever produced. Its lightweight and compact design does not, however, leave out controls and displays one would expect from an EOS Digital camera.

Canon EOS Rebel T1i EF-S Digital SLR Camera

Price  $ 749.99 +

I had the opportunity to give this camera a quick test a few days ago and comparing to 50D, which is a similar camera, I would go for EOS T1i which has high definition video which you will not find on 50D.  The major advantage of 50D is well within the price range. For anyone moving on to becoming professional, this camera will do anything you need to do. A great camera with very advanced features.

I have not seen a lot of negative reviews about this digital camera, so if you have one, feel  free to write down your comments below.

Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR Camera

Price: $999.99 +

If you are a serious nature shooter, this is not the camera for you. The Depth of Field Preview button has been positioned awkwardly. This digital camera can be difficult to use with complicated controls. Not so user friendly, I would say. And I have read bad reviews about 60Ds’s little switch on the hot shoe. It appeared to be faulty as it sends wrong signal to the camera. It is supposed to tell the camera when a flash is installed or not. But because of the metal spring tab that doesn’t spring back far enough, the switch fails to reset which would disable the pop up flash as the camera thought there’s a flash installed. Ooops! I don’t want to be in that position. (There’s a work around though, which you’ll find on the Internet).

But, looking at the pro side of it, Canon EOS 60D has good basic features such as quick start-up time, excellent image quality, superior build quality, bright LCD, and it feels very solid and would fit an average adult hand size. Canon EOS 60D has a sturdy build to it which is great for outdoor activities such as mountain hiking and camping as it allows you to be a little rough. This digital camera is dust and water resistant. And like most of Canon’s Digital SLR Camera, this one delivers great image and I would say for a price like that, I would give this a four star.

  • To check how to use EOS 60D, download a copy of Canon EOS 60D User Manual here from Canon USA support group. You must have Adobe Reader to read the full text.

Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera

Price $1,699.00 +

You may well think of this camera was built for sports photographer, and if there’s just one word I can say about this digital camera, it will be “simple”. No feature is useless, everything is easy to find, and so simple to operate. This is a great camera to take with you to places where you are afraid to risk more expensive cameras. Some photographers may not care that this digital camera’s body is built with good quality and materials; but others may find that for that one quality alone, it may be worth purchasing.

EOS 7D has its own weak points as well; I have read reviews about its Autofocus. You can’t rely on it as you still need to control it to get the image that you actually want. The noise is also a bit low and not as good as 5D Mark II.

  • To check how to use EOS 7D, download a copy of Canon EOS 7D User Manual here from Canon USA support group. You must have Adobe Reader to read the full text.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera

Estimated Retail Price: $2,499.00†

If you are a wedding photographer or anyone who loves to take pictures at low light without using a flash to create any mood for your photos, you’re going to love this digital camera as it performs well using higher ISO.  I’ve seen how this camera delivered great pictures and videos. This can be a bit pricey, but with a viewing screen that’s as clear and sharp as you can imagine, with perfect pictures that it can deliver, plus the ease of operation and speed, it is well worth the price.

There are a few things though that’s worth considering as well before purchasing 5D Mark II, it is heavy. It is not something you would want to carry around if you will be out for a nice tour.  And I have seen reviews how the video can be awfully not user friendly since you can’t use the viewfinder while shooting. So imagine yourself focusing manually using the viewing screen. But, this digital camera is capable of shooting HD video.
Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera is well recommended to someone who’s taking one step up with their photography but afraid to spend too much on a good digital camera.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i Digital SLR Camera

Price: $899.99 +

Canon T3i is at a price point where you could justify the price versus performance ratio for a camera that offers video and still digital images. I highly recommend this camera, and it doesn’t matter if you are starting out or a pro. This digital camera is easy to use. It has a little of everything from the 6d and 7d to the T2i. It produces excellent image quality with simple controls, nice features and bright LCD.

However, Canon Rebel T3i Digital Camera has a short battery life, it can be noisy with limited lens choices. It is a bit bulky and heavy which could tire your hands quickly. But overall, this digital camera is highly recommended.

Canon EOS 1D Mark IV Digital SLR Camera

Estimated Price: US$ 4,999.00

Overall, Mark IV is perfect for speed and accuracy. Its autofocus in good light is very snappy. ISO is cleaner, and it's noise is of a variety that cleans up better. White balance and light metering was very accurate than 5D II. Although it is heavy and bulky, you will find that it actually helps those shaking hands to keep still while taking the shot. The battery lasts longer and ergonomically, Canon EOS 1D Mark IV Digital SLR Camera is incredibly nice to hold.

This digital SLR camera would have been perfect for someone who wouldn’t mind having no full frame sensor.  To get the most out of this camera, remember to study its features and functions.

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III

Estimated Retail Price: $6,999.00†

The 1Ds Mark III digital camera has proven to be a superb camera. Image quality is remarkably good and the build quality is without peer. The large file sizes give more than enough information to maintain detail even after cropping.

  • To check how to use 1Ds Mark III, download a copy of Canon 1Ds Mark III User Manual here from Canon USA support group. You must have Adobe Reader to read the full text.

If you are after extreme detail in large prints, you will find this digital camera awesomely ridiculous. However, the buttons in the back are subject to wear and accumulated dirt.

The controls are well placed and intuitive, which makes this digital camera much easier to use than its predecessor, although the AF point selector is a bit in an awkward position. Start up time is fast and processing time is reasonable, given the huge size of the files. The menu design is vastly improved and the battery life can be amazing. This digital camera also performs extremely well in different climate weather. Other than weight, cost and the AF selector, this digital camera would amaze any digital photographer.

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III Digital Camera Features

Superb image quality: entirely new 21.1 Megapixel Full-Frame Canon CMOS Sensor, Highlight Tone Priority, and 14-bit A/D conversions for outstanding color tones.
Dual "DIGIC III" Image Processor for excellent image quality and processing speed.
Live View Function capabilities, displayed on the large 3.0-inch LCD monitor.
Outstanding durability thanks to a shutter durability-tested to 300,000 cycles, dust- and water-resistant design, and EOS Integrated Cleaning System.
Up to 5 fps, burst rate up to 12 consecutive RAW images or 56 full-resolution JPEGs, and compatible with newest UDMA high-speed CF cards.
Fast and precise AF system, with 19 high-precision, cross-type AF points with f/2.8 or faster lenses and 26 additional "Assist Points."
Compatible with wireless file transmitter WFT-E2A, extensive remote control accessories, and 15 different interchangeable Ec-series focus screens.

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III Digital Camera Functionality

  • A New Full-Frame Performance Standard

The tremendous pixel count delivers high-resolution images of exacting precision, with Photoshop file sizes over 60MB for outstanding quality at large print sizes and post-processing cropping flexibility. Despite the higher pixel density, Canon CMOS sensor technology ensures exceptionally low noise and the widest usable ISO range* (from 50 to 3200, using ISO range extension).

  • Highlight Tone Priority

This digital camera’s unique Highlight Tone Priority feature takes full advantage of the camera's 14-bit per channel digital conversion to provide smoother gradations from the grays to the highlights and preserve greater detail in image highlight areas which is a perennial problem for digital photographers, especially those who work in bright sunlight or contrasting studio lighting. Highlight Tone Priority expands the available range of capture in the highlights, yet it exacts no penalties in either shadow detail or other aspects of image capture.

  • Advanced 14-bit A/D Conversion

Whereas most other digital cameras use 12-bit A/D (analog-to-digital) converters, the EOS-1Ds Mark III digital camera employs superior 14-bit per channel converters to process the output of the imaging sensor. In each color channel, this means there are 16,384 distinct brightness steps from the darkest to brightest tone (vs. 4,096 previously). This ensures smoother tonal transitions and more natural gradations. RAW images are recorded at the full 14 bit, and once processed will preserve the entire range of tones when opened in Photoshop's 16-bit color space.

  • "Picture Style" settings

A unique feature where photographers can recreate characteristics of their favorite films. Color, saturation, sharpness and contrast settings create noticeable variation in the saved image. In addition to six preset Picture Style settings (Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Neutral, Faithful and Monochrome), users can create three additional settings for their particular photographic style.
Picture Style settings are applied directly to JPEG images, giving tremendous flexibility to shooters who prefer the ease of JPEG files. If RAW images are processed in Canon's Digital Photo Professional software (v. 3.2 or higher) or RAW Image Task software, the versatile Picture Style settings can be modified or completely changed in the computer, without affecting the original file.

In the Philippines, Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III digital camera's price range from Php186,000 to Php 230,000 (body only).
